SOY EMPRENDEDORA Receives UN Global Compact Ecuador Award for SDG 5

June 9, 2023 by Ana Lucia Jaramillo

SOY EMPRENDEDORA, “I am an Entrepreneur“, has been awarded the UN Global Compact Ecuador Award for Good Practices in Sustainable Development in the SDG 5 – Gender Equality category.

Supporting and empowering women through innovative programming continues to be an essential focal point for the Lundin Foundation and Lundin Gold. Women’s equality and empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and is integral to inclusive and sustainable development dimensions. When women thrive, communities thrive.

This recognition highlights our commitment and efforts to promote gender equality in entrepreneurship. We are proud to have been selected from a highly-ranked competition, which demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our team.

Through SOY EMPRENDEDORA, we are empowering women in the province of Zamora Chinchipe, providing them with the necessary tools to achieve business success. We are proud to be positively impacting the lives of many entrepreneurs, creating an inclusive and equitable environment.

The program encouraged women-led enterprises to apply in two categories: “business ideas” or “business in progress.” Upon the first call for applications, 158 women-led enterprises responded. From this applicant pool, 30 were shortlisted and received 77 hours of training in management skills and women’s leadership, personalized coaching in self-knowledge and female empowerment. This group of 30 women has now formed a women’s network to continue to grow personally and professionally. This network is supported by Lundin Gold, the Foundation and its allies.

We want to thank our amazing team in Ecuador for their achievements, hard work and passion in what they do — they are making it possible! We also extend our thanks to the important allies of our first edition: @Banco Pichincha, @Fundación CRISFE, @Fundación Telefónica, @WIM Ecuador, the American Embassy in Ecuador and @AEI and to our implementer @STARTUPS VENTURES. Thanks for the support.

We will continue to be committed to promoting opportunities for more women entrepreneurs in the province of Zamora Chinchipe to reach their full potential at a business, professional, and personal level.
